I always have these weird rituals and rules for making wishes. First, I have to happen upon the time or have someone else bring it up, at that point in time… it doesn’t mean as much if I wait for the time to turn. Second, I have to close my eyes for what I think is long enough for the minute to turn to 12. I always cross fingers on both hands and for some strange reason, hold them up next to my shut eyes. Then I silently make a wish.

My only problem is, my mind wanders during wishes. At first I talk in my head about what I wish for, then I correct myself saying “no that’s a stupid wish, you should’ve wished for this…” Then I wonder aloud (in my head) if the fact that I just corrected myself and made a secondary wish, that the first wish is void, in which I just start basically talking to myself until I realize I look like an idiot with my eyes closed and fingers crossed. It really is a scene out of Herman’s Head.

And then… then there are the days when I don’t need to say anything at all because I know just the feelings of hope I have are enough…
