Beefy King …183/365

We went to Beefy King for lunch today. With probably the best roast beef sandwiches in Orlando, and tasty tots, Beefy King has been a landmark in the area since 1967.

This is the machine they use to cut their fresh sandwich meats. On the other side is a cutout in the table that shoots steam. This little square piece is the only place they make sandwiches on. It’s neat to watch. They then slop all the excess bits up with the other side of the bun and *SLAP* it together for a tasty treat!

OPA! …72/365

Maybe I was in the wrong mood, wasn’t drinking, or MAYBE it was because I waited 3 hours to finally get my food, but I was not very impressed with the Orlando Taverna Opa last night.

We got there with a reservation for a table of 14 around 8pm. Stood around in a packed and VERY LOUDĀ restaurantĀ for around another 45 mins until finally someone came and took my drink order (by this time I had given into the fact that I was not drinking, because otherwise I think I would’ve walked right out of the place). Red wine in hand (and cheesy cup, not glass) I covered my drink so the falling napkins wouldn’t land in my much needed alcohol. I quickly jumped out of the way as a stream of dancing patrons passed by when one of the greek songs came on.

Still, I kept an open mind after 2 hours of still not having a table, and tried to maintain composure for my friend, who’s birthday it was. We were all very hungry by the time 10pm rolled around. We kicked some sorority girls off from dancing on our table so we could finally be seated. I was again angered as 30 more minutes flew by and still no service. The tables that were sat around us after we had been seated all had dinner on the table right as we were asked for our orders. Needless to say I was peeved. Finally, my food came out at 11pm, and my stomach did knots since I was so hungry.

Another really annoying thing about this place was the music. Most of it was fun and upbeat, but it was so loud that I couldn’t hear the person next to me. I mean I would have been OK with everything had I thought I was going clubbing, but I was anticipating a nice dinner with friends, not a night at the Roxbury (which they did play the song to).

All in all we made the best of it, and had a good time after some drinks made us forget and food helped us calm down. We stayed until 1am dancing on the tables and throwing napkins in the air. I can still say with the utmost confidence, that I will never be going back…

This may be a reason why service was so slow...
