First Edition of WTF Friday!
Posted by Christa Watson in WTF Friday on December 4, 2009
I just realized that I spend a lot of time saying wtf to many different situations throughout the day. Of course being on twitter is great for these aforementioned moments, because I can usually quickly post my wtf moment and move on. Then there are those moments when you feel like they are enough wtf’upness that you should dedicate an entire Friday segment blog post for them…and here we are! So for this fabulous WTF Friday I present to you an ad from Muscle & Fitness magazine:
Oh where do I begin? Let’s bypass the obviously horrible photoshop work and skip right to the question of, where is this girl’s Pamela Anderson inspired barbed wire tattoo? I mean I understand they tried to make up for it with that uber cool “ultra hardcore” stamp tat (aka horrible photoshop job) across her rip roarin’ stomach… but I have found in my experience that whenever you have to actually label something with what it is, it usually turns out NOT to be (ex. ads for cars that proclaim to have “never been raced”).
Alright alright, I know, I’m just being nit picky now, but come on let’s face it… Ultra hardcore tat girl is curling a 10 POUND WEIGHT! My grandma curls 15 pounds- IN HER SLEEP! How could you possibly expect bodybuilder enthusiasts to get excited about what looks to be miracle juice in a syringe when the spokes model can only curl 10 lbs?! They could have at least used those awesome adobe skills to photoshop out the number so us readers could imagine it was something heavier.
OK, last and most disturbing piece… SHE’S SMOKING A CIGARETTE! Does this ad agency even understand the audience here? WTF?!? You are talking about men and women who spend hours upon hours in the gym a day, watch everything they eat down to each gram of protein, and carefully balance their supplements (which they are so conveniently advertising) and you have her SMOKING A CIG? What were you thinking? NOT TO MENTION they added in the cigarette with photoshop! What self respecting photographer would allow this to happen to their photograph?…*Pause for speechlessness*
All in all, the early 90′s madonna net gloves, patent leather bikini, and knee high stripper boots are probably the better selling points of this advert. So much for that $100k wasted on a design and marketing degree, it’s back to the drawing board for you!
