I’ve decided to ban Avatar from my want to see movie list. I know, I know, everyone is in love with this Pocahontas meets Matrix graphic rich story, but I’m irked. I mean you spend millions upon millions of dollars on cutting edge CGI effects that have never been seen before and you left the movie logo creation to an intern? At least that is what I assume happened since the creative for the movie was the word “AVATAR” spelled out in crappy papyrus font with an applied glow filter:
Guess which one I created in 2 seconds in Photoshop and which one was from the exclusive avatar movie website?
So Avatar the movie, I’m disappointed. No you will never receive my box office $$ and this WTF is for you!

Hahahahaha lol. That’s really funny.
I will be another one to say the movie is amazing.
But you’re right about the font. I’d never even considered that! Hahaha

Wow, you’re right! I wouldn’t go THAT far but still pretty funny. The hilarious part is they probably paid a graphic designer good money to make the logo when it was so damn easy

I am a graphic designer, and I see the method behind the logo design. I don’t think it is as bad as you are saying it is. It isnt “blingy” and “shiny”, but for a very good reason. If you see the movie, you will understand the reason behind the aesthetic of the logo.

I did think you’re right Christa, the logo was an odd choice but I still went to see it and it was fantastic until I saw the logo pop up at the end of the film again…(joke) Papyrus font is just a no-no in my book… Saying that, the film has just taken a billion dollars so I’m not going to slate it too much. I think the only people it will detract will be snobby designers that dislike the logo and don’t watch the trailer – ha!

Haha, well I’m no snobby designer… If you know me, you’ll know that the post is more of a joke than serious, but it’s true I don’t want to go see it because I’m more about story lines. From what I’ve heard everyone is so in love with the graphics, which personally is not what makes a great movie. They all admit the storyline left a little lacking… I want some substance along with CGI. #justsayin

i can’t cite my sources but i was told by someone that it was a nod to something.
if i could remember what the nod was it would make sense. or, at least, i’m told the nod made sense.
…that didn’t make sense…
anyway. i see your point on the font and agree.

I can’t believe those cheap bastards! How could they…for the love of all that is holy, why in God’s name would they use that font. This has me so angry I could kick a kitten through a fan!

YES! Finally someone who sees my point. I refuse to pay to see this abomination. Do you see a wheelchair under Mark Harmon? Do you….see a wheelchair…under Mark Harmon? No! You do not, because Mark Harmon is cool. And I know what you’re thinking, ‘This is just like your Gil Gerard speech.’ Well you’re wrong. Granted it is similar….
